Description

Clifton is an affluent area comprised of four separate beach coves, numbered one through four, along Cape Town’s Atlantic seaboard. Clifton 1, 2, 3, and 4 are separated by large boulders and offer stretching white sands and icy turquoise waters. Clifton’s beaches were rated as one of Discovery Travel Channel’s top ten beaches for 2003 and 2004.

Clifton First Beach is a lovely beach tucked away from the busy crowds in the prestigious suburb of Clifton, along Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard. This beach is a firm favourite among volleyball players and has excellent waves for surfing.

Like the rest of the Clifton beaches, Clifton First is accessed from the beach road by a set of steep stairs or via a nice walk along the other beaches from Clifton Fourth. Swimming is relatively safe, but one should never underestimate the undertow. The water is rather chilly, but the gorgeous sand and views make up for it. There is a small ablution block here, but for any other facilities, you will have to walk across to Clifton Fourth Beach.
