Glenmore Beach

Glenmore Beach, KwaZulu-Natal
+1

Description

Glenmore Beach forms part of four areas on the lower end of KwaZulu-Natal’s Hibiscus Coast, namely Trafalgar Beach, Palm Beach, Munster, and Glenmore Beach. While they are geographically quite similar, they each have subtle differences with a unique charm of their own.

Glenmore Beach is the swimming and surfing bay in Munster. It is flanked by two rivers, the Mkhandandlovu to the north and the Itongasi to the south, which separates the beaches of Munster and Glenmore.

The long stretch of coast offers a natural beauty that is unavoidable. With long expanses of unspoilt sand, lush vegetation, scattered boulders, rocky outcrops, and grass-covered banks, the beach is one of the most beautiful in the region. It is an angling, sea kayaking, and surfing paradise, as well as a favourite location for beauty pageants and fishing contests. Other attractions include the Nightingale Shipwreck which ran aground here in 1933. The ship’s boiler and the cylinder can still be seen on the rocks at low tide. For adventure lovers, the Glenmore 4x4 track has over 30 obstacles and offers hours of fun.

The beach offers shark protected waters, the mouth of the Itongasi River has a boat launching site, and dolphins and whales visit the waters between April and October. Lifeguards are on duty during the holiday periods.
