Johannesburg Stadium
Description
The multipurpose Johannesburg Stadium is in the Doornfontein suburb of Johannesburg, in the Ellis Park World of Sports Precinct. It was originally built as an athletics stadium, but can be used for multipurpose events such as boxing, wrestling, exhibitions, sporting spectacles, banquets, arts and culture festivals, and many community events. It is mostly used as a training ground for Orlando Pirates Football Club and the Golden Lions Rugby Union.
The stadium can accommodate 36 000 seated and approximately 10 000 - 15 000 spectators on the floor area. The unique design allows spectators to be close to all activities on the field and track, while excellent site lines give superb viewing from all seats.
Spectators have easy access to catering points around the concourse of the stadium. Glass fronted hospitality suites and VIP lounges overlook the pitch area and are ideal venues for corporate entertainment and hospitality. The press and media enjoy well-equipped commentary positions, exclusive media areas, and interview rooms. The sophisticated auditorium is capable of hosting 100 delegates and 6 host speakers with state of the art facilities.
