Kaspersky Randburg Astro Stadium
Description
More commonly known by locals as the “Randburg Astro†(or simply the “Astroâ€), the stadium is a popular astro turf hockey complex in Randburg, Johannesburg. The stadium has two state of the art synthetic surfaces. The turf is home to the Southern Gauteng Hockey Association and is used by all levels of hockey teams and leagues. It has hosted various matches from school level and club friendlies to interprovincial hockey tournaments, numerous top International Hockey Tournaments, including the Women’s Champions’ Challenge, the Under 21 Junior World Cup Qualifiers, the World University Hockey Championships, as well as international matches for the SA Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams.
The Kaspersky Randburg Astro forms part of the Central Sports Grounds, which has several adjacent soccer fields. The venue has seating for over 3,000 spectators, who can enjoy watching hockey matches from seated stands on the west side and a sloping grass embankment on the eastern side of field “Aâ€. Players and spectators can also enjoy a refreshing drink at the on-site bar, which is well-priced and always has a friendly atmosphere. The bar and separate hall can be hired for private functions.
The astro is centrally situated in the Randburg area, with easy access to the N1 highway, and is within 100m of a Virgin Active Gym, Woolworths Food, and several restaurants.
