Description
Madwaleni Hospital is a 180 bed district hospital situated near Elliotdale, Eastern Cape. The hospital caters to the Mbashe sub-district of Amathole with a population of 262,000. The hospital was built in 1959 by Dutch Reformed missionaries and taken over by the South African Government’s Department of Health in 1976.
GETTING THERE
The hospital is located in Mqanduli, 29km South-East of Elliotdale in the Eastern Cape Province. The town Willowvale is situated 67.4km South-West of the Hospital.
PAYMENT
Madwaleni Hospital is a provincial hospital, and services are free to pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as children under the age of six years old. Other citizens are charged according to a sliding scale depending on their income.
