Paarl Gimnasium
Description
Paarl Gimnasium (Paarl Gim or Paarl Gym) is a co-ed Afrikaans high school in Paarl in the Western Cape. The school is a top sporting school and has produced several famous South African rugby players, such as Schalk Burger and Jean de Villiers. The Interschool’s Tournament against Paarl Boys’ High School is a popular event on the sporting calendar and draws thousands of spectators every year.
HERITAGE
Paarl Gimnasium was founded in 1858 by Rev. van Lingen as a Dutch Christian school for boys. In 1964, the school split into two separate schools - a primary school and a high school. The primary school is housed in the Gimnasium building.
ACADEMICS
The school motto is Sol Justitae Illustra Nos which means “Sun of Justice, Shine Upon Us”.
