Rijk's Private Cellar
Description
As numerous cellars, wine farms, and estates branch out to increase their range, Rijk's Private Cellar is unique in that it specialises in only three varieties of wines, namely Shiraz, Pinotage, and Chenin Blanc. To top this, all the wines produced here spend up to 20 months in the barrel, and then another year or four bottled – until the winemaker, Pierre Wahl, is satisfied that they’re perfect.
The wines Rijik’s are known for intense, complex, and elegant notes, and have become a firm favourite with the South African locals, who enjoy bringing them out at braais, or savouring them on special occasions. Their Rijks Touch of Oak Chenin Blanc 2010 won two awards, and is served in the South African Airways First Class section. Tastings are done during the week between 10:00 – 16:00, and on Saturdays from 10:00 – 14:00.
