Somerset College
Description
Somerset College is a private co-ed school with boarding facilities in Somerset West. It teaches Grade RRR to Grade 12 and has 570 students. Somerset College is one of only a handful of schools in the Western Cape affiliated to the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
HERITAGE
Founded in 1997, the school motto is Pietas which means “duty to one’s family and community” or simply “do what is right”.
ACADEMICS
The Matric pass rate has been 100% since the school opened.
SPORTS & CULTURE
The main sports are hockey, cricket, rugby, and water polo. Somerset College is also well known for its outdoor education programme where students take a 27-day journey of self-discovery. During this time, they cover 360km on foot, canoes, and bicycles.

BOARDING
Most students are weekly boarders from the Western Cape, but some students come as far as from Botswana, Namibia, and Germany. There are 56 girls in Founders House and 60 boys in Vineyard House. Each house has a common room with recreational games, a kitchen area, and television. A catering company provides food in the dining room. There is also a small clinic.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The school has 3 scholarships each year - 2 academic and an all-rounder. These are given to talented Grade 7 students for entry into the Senior School.
