St Francis Bay Beach
Description
St Francis Bay Beach is a major draw card for holidaymakers from all over the country during the summer months, often flaunted as “Little Venice†by locals. Set in the popular holiday town of St Francis Bay, just 90km west of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, the beach offers superb water sport on the ocean and Kromme River, pristine nature reserves, and a historic lighthouse that adds to the magic of the Sunshine Coast.
Surfers flock to this part of the coast for its excellent waves. Dolphins and whales can often be spotted; the latter especially during the winter season. The white sandy beach offers some of the safest swimming on the coast and excellent fishing opportunities from the rocks. St Francis Bay lies alongside Cape St Francis at the estuary of the Kromme River, navigable for about 10km, with many twists and turns that make it an amazing stretch for boating.
