Woodmill Lane Shopping Centre is situated on the historical site of Knysna’s 1919 Sawmill and Timber Factory in Knysna, Western Cape. Established in 1990, it was the first major retail complex to push for growth in the town and set the standard for future environmentally friendly developments in the region. Lovingly called the “Warm Heart of Knysna”, it is one of the most popular shopping destinations around.

The centre boasts 75 shops ranging from boutiques and arts and crafts shops, to art galleries and a Pick n Pay supermarket. Enjoy a meal in the open air piazza, surrounded by dancing water fountains and live music.

The centre still houses some of the original sawmill machinery. Most of these machines date back to the early 1900s from places as far as Birmingham, England. As most of the centre falls under the open sky, the need for air-conditioning and artificial lighting is minimised. There is plenty of fresh air, light, and live greenery to add to the shopping experience. Other green strategies the mall implements include energy saving light bulbs, a recycling system, and numerous tanks to collect rain water which is used in the car wash and to water the gardens.
