We also wanted to mention that we have finally, many plumbers later and long story short, found the hot water issue and sorted it out. There was a hot water underground leak which was causing all the problems. We now have piping hot water for guests

Dear Ben
Yes, so sorry about the initial hot water problems which were exacerbated by the sudden winter inclement weather (solar geyser) and particularly load shedding in the early morning when the geyser was supposed to be heating up. We seem to have managed to solve the issue by increasing the heating time from 3 to 7 am - then if there is load shedding for a couple of hours, it should still heat the water enough for a shower.
It is not an exact science as solar geysers do not operate like regular geysers, but I'm doing my best to get it right.
