Grey College Secondary School
Description
Grey College Secondary School (also known as Grey Kollege Sekonder) is a public day and boarding school for boys in Bloemfontein, Free State. The school teaches Grades 8 to 12 in both English and Afrikaans and is one of the best known schools in the country. Grey College Secondary School currently has 1200 students. Grey College Secondary School’s sister school is Oranje Meisieskool Eunice Girl’s School.
HERITAGE
Grey College was founded in 1855 by Sir George Grey, the governor of the Cape Colony. The school was opened on 17 January 1859 with Andrew Murray as the first headmaster. The secondary and primary schools were previously one complete unit, but were separated into two in 1950.
The school motto is Nihil Stabile Quod Infidum which means “Nothing is steadfast which is not true”.
