Theuniskraal
Description
Surrounded by the horseshoe shape of the Obiqua, Winterhoek, and Witzenberg mountain range is the fertile Winterhoek valley, 7km outside of Tulbagh. Here you’ll find the gorgeous wine farm, Theuniskraal. It was established in the 1700s, and today it still remains a family-run affair. A combination of technology and natural farming methods are employed, and there is a friendly resident family of ducks, which act as a natural pest control.
The wines created here are predominantly Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and a wonderful Cape Riesling. They also have an international range known as Ixia, named after a rare flower that grows in the Tulbagh region, and the wines exported include Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, and Shiraz. The tasting room is open Monday to Friday from 09:00-12:00 and again from 13:00 - 17:00. They are open on Saturdays from 09:00 – 13:00.
